This image is of a newspaper clipping discussing a letter from "Mrs. Billie Corel Buchanan" (Augusta Corel) to her sister, "Mrs. George B. Dunkley" (Gladys Fay Corel), granddaughters of James Pickens Corel and daughters of James Henry Corel.

In a letter to her sister, Mrs. George B. Dunkley, 628 Maine street, Mrs. Billie Corel Buchanan, a former resident of Lawrence, gives this report of the Kansas-Nevada basketball game in Carson City, New Year's night:

"On December 30 we went over to see Nevada and Nebraska play, Nevada won wich made me very happy ... On Thursday night we saw Kansas play Nevada ... K. U. won which also made me very happy.

Before the game started I saw Phog Allen sitting over on the Kansas bench all by himself. I went over and approached him from the rear and said, 'Hello Mr. Allen'. He turned around-looked at me and said 'For goodness sake where in the world did you come from?' ... I was surprised as he, because I thought I would have to explain, who I was. We chatted until nearly game time and he said, 'Now be sure to come back after its over' ... When I got back to my seat, about 20 people came over and said, 'How in the world did you get to talk to Phog Allen?' 'You know out here, he is considered the greatest basketball coach of all times' ... So after the game I took a bunch of them over and introduced them. He was swell to them.' .. Mrs. Buchanan was well known in Lawrence a few years ago as a piano player. She is now a resident of Carson City.
